artistcareer is an independent, non-commercial website that offers high quality resources and information to support professional and business skills development for artists.

Our aims are to:

  • be the first port of call for artists who seek information and advice on professional and business development
  • provide a pathway to current and quality information, advice and services tailored to the needs of artists
  • help artists obtain up-to-date information and advice quickly and efficiently
  • improve access to professional development, by giving artists more opportunities to learn and acquire information at times that suit them and in ways relevant to their art practice
  • create a central communication point for artists and establish a community of providers that support them; and encourage debate about innovative methods in art practice and skill development

Our focus is on information and non-accredited learning that supports the ongoing development of artists’ careers and businesses. All web links selected for inclusion must be relevant both to the visual arts, craft and design, and to meeting artists’ ongoing development needs.

The site does not create content that is already offered by organisations. Rather, it acts as a hub and clearinghouse, adding value to existing websites by helping publicise the information and training opportunities they offer.

This site has been developed jointly by the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) and the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA).

Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF)

AbaF is a federal government body. Our business is increasing private sector support for the arts - through arts sponsorship, business-arts partnerships, volunteering with the arts and philanthropy. We work with businesses, arts organisations, individual artists, trusts and foundations. We provide advice, professional development, volunteering and networking opportunities. Many of our services are free.

National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA)

NAVA is the peak body for the Australian visual arts and craft/design sector. Since our establishment in 1983, we have been influential in bringing about policy and legislative change to foster the sector’s development. Our achievements include improvements to artists’ rights and working conditions and substantial increases in government funding.

We carry out advocacy and lobbying, research, policy and project development, data collection and analysis and professional representation. We also set national industry standards and offer a range of membership services.

Partners

As a central communication point, artistcareer aims to link visual arts, craft and design practitioners with the best possible information. We couldn’t do this without the involvement of a community of content providers.

Our partners provide essential services to arts practitioners and are acknowledged as experts in their fields. With our partners’ involvement, we can improve artists’ access to reliable information and support their professional and business development.
